This might look like our somewhat famous “Oberto Heroes of Summer” video highlighting approaches to obstacles and life, which hundreds of thousands of people have appreciated… but there’s a twist in this new release. Take a look and especially a listen to our new version and discover a different way to appreciate this favorite.
We’ve added Audio Description performed by Jose Acevedo integrated smoothly into the piece. The narration highlights visuals for those, like me, who may not be otherwise able to appreciate the sights. As one of the five team members during the event, we worked as a team to produce an accessible version of this video which we believe enhances it for everyone.
Descriptive Video Service (DVS) or Audio Description is the addition of a narrator carefully avoiding interrupting any of the film dialog or significant sound affects while describing the pertinent information present visually. This is how I watch movies in theaters and many TV programming options with a much higher level of enjoyment.
It has been a shortcoming to not provide a version of this signature event in our presentations, on our front page, and on our YouTube channel for those who would benefit from the appropriate accessibility. As such, when I pitched the idea to Jose, I was delighted to hear his immediate enthusiasm. Listening to his production, I became even more appreciative of the decision as we broke down the piece in more detail than I’d ever experienced. We think that the final product enhances the experience for everyone.
I hope we’ll also highlight how beneficial such simple services can be for everyone, especially for those (both sighted and sight impaired) who were previously unaware of the benefit of such services. Thank you Jose for yet another demonstration of your powerful teamwork!
